Former Cardinal hockey player's life taken by cancer

Mike Daoust helped bring championship to Plattsburgh in 2001

Mike Daoust, a member of the 2001 national championship winning Plattsburgh State men's hockey team, lost his battle with Hodgkin's lymphoma last Saturday, falling victim to the disease at the age of 34. He was diagnosed with the disease in March 2008.

In a four-year Cardinal hockey career that totaled 101 games, Daoust notched nine goals and 36 assists, including the game-winning goal in the 1999 NCAA quarterfinals in double overtime against five-time defending national champion Middlebury.

Daoust was as a seventh grade teacher at St. Mary's Catholic School in Brockville, Ontario.
