Well CP, you know how the saying goes. Breaking up is hard to do. To be honest, I thought I was over this relationship a long time ago — a year ago, to be precise. I was ready to walk away, satisfied with what I’d gained from our two years together. But you wooed me with gifts — a trip to Texas, good friends, free pizza, an office I could call my own — so I stuck around another year. It wasn’t always easy. You never gave me any space.

Sometimes I seriously considered running my truck over my phone or “forgetting” to pay my cable bill. But I stuck it out ’til the end, and now, as it’s time to part ways, I can’t help but feel a little sentimental.

Jess — Who else would lie on the dirty office floor with me at 2 a.m. pondering A1 art, or hunt me down and drag me out of bed on a Friday night when I’m feeling depressed and anti-social? Thank you for urging me to not give up when so many times I wanted to. And for believing that I could be a successful editor. Your leadership has always gone above and beyond, and your friendship is everlasting.

Alyssa — The goddamn “managering” editor of Cardinal Points! Thanks for always lightening the mood with your lickies and blowies. I really think it was an incentive for the guys to work harder. Good luck and have fun in Dublin… find me a cute Irish boy!

Matt—Mr. Knows-Every-Single-Person-on-Campus, I know you’ll make a great editor in chief. Remember to breathe. When things get stressful, consider Yoga. Thanks for all the headline re-writes and fixing my computer problems when I start to panic.

Jameson — Thank you for being my personal punching bag. I’m not sure how I would have gotten my aggression out if it weren’t for you. Sorry, it was nothing personal. Your computer just happened to be next to mine.

Dimas — Thanks for, well, being you. I’m going to miss your ridiculous laugh and constant, oblivious swearing. Your columns were always entertaining, but I have to ask, do you find me remotely attractive?

Jen — You have such an amazing eye for photography, and you’re going to go far. Thanks for taking all the last-minute assignments I threw at you in stride and for doing an incredible job with them all. Maybe someday when I get an SLR we can go to the city for a photo-taking adventure!

Jenna — Do yourself a favor and try not to get “rocked” while you’re fuse editor… you won’t enjoy putting first-edits on stories with a concussion. I know you’re going to have some great ideas, and I look forward to reading your section next semester.

Bryan — Thanks for being a super-associate. I always knew I could count on you for that last-minute assignment. Now, I’m handing the reins over to you. Would you like some notes?

OK CP, that’s it. It’s over. I think this is the most closure we can have. Thanks for pumping my body with hydrogenated corn oil every Wednesday night (that’s for you, Mr. Murphy), and for exercising my tear ducts on frustrating, sleep-deprived Thursday afternoons. I will never forget our times together — good and bad.
