An early morning car crash has claimed the life of a Plattsburgh State student.

According to a news release from the Nassau County Police Department Public Information Office, Sebastiano Crecco, 19, of Syosset, a city on the north shore of Long Island, was the passenger in a 2004 Subaru driven by 18-year-old Daniel Sackaroff.

Sackaroff was driving in Syosset and lost control of the vehicle which hit an oak tree and stopped after hitting a fence on Underhill Blvd

Crecco was pronounced dead at North Shore University Hospital in Syosset 1:14 a.m. Friday, and Sackaroff was brought to Nassau University Medical Center with head pain, the release said.

Crecco is the second PSUC student to lose his life in the last four months, after Steven Fanning died in a house fire on Court Street in Plattsburgh Feb. 8.

Fanning was a freshman. Crecco had just completed his freshman year in May.
A Facebook group has been made in remembrance of "Sabby," the name Crecco was commonly called.

Now, a memorial with flowers and notes sits on the ground next to the tree where the crash occured. Around the crash site, there is shattered glass and remnants of the car.

A note to Crecco, appearing to have been written by Sackaroff, was written on a piece of metal next to the tree. Parts of it read: "It's hard waking up and knowing you're not here. It's also hard when I think it should be me and not you.

"God gave me a second chance and I'm going to live it to the fullest in your name."

Sabby wasnt an idiot, he wouldnt have gotten in the car with a drunk or high driver. who ever said that is a complete idiot and that wasnt even something to say, people lost a son, brother, grandson, newphew, friend, etc. not a doll or a car, or even something that could be fixed

wow. who ever said there was alcohol involved in a complete idiot. not every crash has alcohol involved in it. sober accidents do happen. and sabby wasnt an idiot, he would have gotten in the car with someone who was drunk or high.

I went to highschool with both of them and they are good kids. The roads were extremely wet and foggy that night. There was no alcohol involved, they were in an STI, not exactly a good car to crash in.

These should be such happy times for young men and women.Finished with your freshman year, looking forward to the summer and reconnecting with family and friends.What a heartbreak for Sebastiano's family and friends.My deep condolences to the Crecco family.
