The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team was defeated, 3-1, by the New Paltz Hawks. This is the Lady Cards second loss of the season, as they drop their second straight conference road game and fall to 4-2-0 in the SUNYAC, 10-2-1 overall.
The New Paltz Hawks boost their SUNYAC record to 2-3-1, 6-6-1 overall, potentially putting them back in the playoff picture.
The three goals given up by PSUC is the highest total this season. Its loss to Brockport is the only other game it has given up at least two goals. The Lady Cardinals have not given up three goals in a game since Sept. 29, 2007, against Oswego. PSUC had only allowed five goals coming into this game.
The Hawks Emily Buckner scored her second collegiate goal and first of this season to open up the scoring for New Paltz. The goals ceased until the 61st minute when PSUC freshman midfielder Lindsey Keyser took an outlet pass from teammate Megan Rivage to post her fifth goal of the season and the equalizer.
The PSUC momentum was short lived, as just two minutes later New Paltz's Kate Addiss netted the go-ahead goal. Leading Hawks scorer Elana Jaroff added the third goal with under a minute left.
The win is New Paltz's second straight. It stays home to host visiting Potsdam tomorrow.
The Lady Cards will try to rebound as they travel to Oneonta tomorrow. The Red Dragons are the No. 1 team in the conference.
