The Plattsburgh State men's and women's cross country teams are coming off a strong meet at Geneseo and aren't looking to make many changes for their upcoming meet at Hamilton College tomorrow.
The teams entered their third phase of training last week, and improvements were seen as both teams finished better than in their previous meet. They each finished in second place, which was two spots higher for the men and six spots higher for the women.
"We're just continuing on practices (from) last week," Head Coach John Lynch said.
Lynch doesn't seem too worried about their next meet, saying that the competition isn't going to be too stiff. On the men's team, he's just looking to see how the team performs as a whole.
"(I would like) to get guys further on down the depth chart a chance to show what they are made of," he said.
Lynch is interested in seeing Ithaca, which will also be running at Hamilton, a team that the PSUC men tied a couple of weeks ago in the Ronald C. Hoffman Invitational at St. Lawrence University.
This meet will also mark the first time in three weeks that the teams won't be previewing a course for a future regional or championship event.
The women's leading runner Jennifer Schaffhouser also isn't too concerned about this meet.
"It's kind of a low key meet, so I think we're probably going to use it as a workout," Schaffhouser said.
Keeping herself in shape for when November comes around seems like more of a concern for Schaffhouser.
"We'll probably still be tired Saturday, but we'll be stronger later in the month to be better competing against the other teams," she said. "I'm sure we'll be able to run well. Hopefully there will be someone for everyone on our team to run with so we'll have a good workout and keep a good pace."
Even though practices were effective last week, the team has already made some changes
"We've already switched it up a little," she said. "Instead of doing our long run on Sunday, we had a progression run (Monday)."
The team's haven't raced at Hamilton since 2006, and they were each successful in their races as the men finished in first place and the women finished in second.
The teams have fared well so far this season. The men's team has had two first place finishes, two second place finishes, and a fourth place finish, while the women have had one first place finish, three second place finishes and an off week where they finished eighth.
There are only three more meets left for both teams before the SUNYAC Championships on Saturday, Nov. 1. One of those three meets will be the Race Against Cancer Relay for Life Event on Saturday, Oct. 18 - the team's second and final home meet of the season. Both teams finished in first place at their last home event, the Cardinal Classic, earlier in the year.
