The Plattsburgh State women's hockey team, ranked No. 1 in the most recent USCHO.com poll, will take on Bowdoin tomorrow at 3 p.m. at Stafford Ice Arena.
It is the Lady Cards regular-season finale, one week after clinching the ECAC-West regular-season title.
The Lady Cards (21-2-1, 14-1-1 ECAC-West) recaptured the No. 1 ranking after defeating No. 2 Middlebury last Tuesday and going 1-0-1 against No. 7 Elmira last weekend. Middlebury held the No. 1 spot since Jan. 21 until the loss.
Bowdoin and PSUC last met Jan. 16 last season in non-conference action. The Lady Cards won the game 4-0 and lead the all-time series 6-2-0.
Bowdoin (5-10-6, 2-8-6 NESCAC) has had a sub-par year and will finish with a losing record for the first time since the 1997-98 season, with the game against the Lady Cards being the
Polar Bears' last of the season.
Regulations state the top seven teams in the conference qualify for the NESCAC women's hockey championship. Bowdoin currently holds the No. 7 spot in the conference.
The Polar Bears are 3-2 in non-conference play this season. Their six ties on the season are the most in the program's history.
"Every game is important towards the end of the season," PSUC Head Coach Houle said. "It could mean home-ice, it could mean a bye (in the NCAA tournament). It's a big game to finish off for NCAA implications and certainly for momentum going into the playoffs."
The Polar Bears own the 31st ranked offense in the nation, scoring 2.10 goals per game, led by junior Lindsay McNamara (7 G, 6 A) and freshman Jill Campbell (6 G, 6 A).
The Lady Cards will enter the game with the nation's top-ranked offense at 4.79 goals per game. Division III leading scorer, junior Danielle Blanchard (25 G, 17 A), and sophomore Steph Moberg (12 G, 19 A) lead the team in points.
In second semester play, Blanchard has registered 19 points (9 G, 10 A) and Moberg has tallied 17 (7 G, 10 A). The team is 10-1-1 in that span.
