Cortland maintained their first place tie with New Paltz in the SUNYAC after defeating Plattsburgh State, 78-62.

Once again, the Lady Cardinals fell behind in the first half and could not recover.

Cortland (20-4, 12-3 SUNYAC) made 50 percent of their shots in the first half and walked into the locker room at halftime with a 39-26 lead.

The Lady Cardinals (5-18, 3-12 SUNYAC) trimmed the lead to nine in the second half with senior Jacee Sutton's jumper, but Cortland scored a fast six points and never looked back.

Senior Detina Santiago had a game-high 22 points. She shot an impressive 5-12 from beyond the arc.

PSUC out-rebounded Cortland 46-33. Sophomore Casey Clark grabbed 18.

Cortland proved they belong at the top of the SUNYAC with their outstanding performance. Senior Sara Cavanaugh scored 19 points, sophomore Jessica Laing had 17 and junior Kristin Ciccone added 15.

In a game where both teams play good defense, many shot opportunities came from beyond the arc. The Red Dragons dominated in the first half, going 7-12 with Ciccone making all three of her attempts.

Cortland reached the 20-win mark for the fourth time in five years and clinched a home game in the SUNYAC tournament beginning Tuesday.

The Lady Cardinals play their final game as the team travels to play SUNYIT 2 p.m. Saturday.
