Men's basketball caps perfect conference record with win over SUNYIT
Following a quick 9-2 run in the end of the second half by No. 11-ranked Plattsburgh State (23-2, 16-0 SUNYAC), the Cards sent those SUNYIT Wildcats (7-18, 2-14 SUNYAC) back to the cage after a 86-75 taming. The aftermath of the game sent both teams in different directions.
With their 16th straight win, the Cardinals became the first team in their school's history to finish with a perfect record in the SUNYAC. They will go on to host the SUNYAC quarterfinals as they take on the Fredonia State Blue Devils (9-16, 6-10 SUNYAC) on Tuesday. On the other hand, the Wildcats finished 0-2 against the Cards in their final game of the season and final game in the SUNYAC. The Wildcats will move to the North Eastern Athletic Conference for the 2008-09 season.
Although PSCU senior-guard Anthony Williams led the way with a game-high 27 points, he continued to struggle with his shot for the second straight game. He has shot just 31.1 percent over the last two (shooting 42.6 percent before the mini-slump) but added six assists and a steal in the win. Senior-forward Ricky Rider exploded for a career-high 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting. Senior-center Travis Gorham had his second straight 15-board game, while also adding 17 points and a block. The Cards' fourth double-digit scorer of the game, freshman-guard Chris Ruiz, added 12 points in just 15 minutes from off the pine.
PSUC managed to lead from start to finish. The Wildcats were paced by Devin Moore and Ajani Edwards, who both finished with monster all-around games. Moore finished with 22 points, 12 boards and two blocks. Edwards tallied 21 points, four assists and 3 steals.

Women's hockey ends regular season with win
By Matt Rosenberg
Despite being senior day in Stafford Ice Arena Saturday afternoon, juniors ran the show.
Juniors on the No. 1 ranked Plattsburgh State women's hockey team accounted for seven combined points and junior goalie Danielle Beattie made 19 saves en route to recording her Division III-best seventh shutout of the season as the Lady Cards defeated visiting Bowdoin, 5-0.
A pre-game ceremony featured the four Lady Card seniors - Elise Campbell, Julie Devereux, Sarah Samson, and Sharis Smith - meeting at center ice with their parents, Head Coach Kevin Houle and Assistant Coach Erin O'Brien for pictures.
All four seniors were in the starting line-up - freshman Steph Moon centered the forward line with Samson and Campbell and Devereux and Smith started on defense.
Junior Shay Bywater opened the scoring for the Lady Cards in the first period at 4:24. Division III leading scorer, junior Danielle Blanchard, and sophomore Steph Moberg figured on the assists.
Freshman Kristen Bond roofed a slap-shot from the right slot later in the period to tally her first collegiate goal. The goal meant that all freshman skaters had recorded at least one goal and one assist on the season.
Blanchard added her nation-leading fifth short-handed goal and 26th of the season later in the first after weaving through traffic in the form of Bowdoin defenders' legs, to make the score 3-0 going into intermission.
Bowdoin (5-11-6, 2-8-6 NESCAC) mustered only one shot in the frame.
There was no scoring in the second period, but Bowdoin out-shot the Lady Cards 11-9 and had some quality scoring chances, something Houle was not happy with.
"You think it's going to be easy, but (Bowdoin) is not a bad hockey team," Houle said. "After the first period we thought the game was over but they didn't."
The Lady Cards took control back in the third period. Moberg netted a slap-shot and junior Claire O'Connor backhanded a shot into the net for the final goals of the game. Bywater and Devereux assisted on Moberg's goal while junior Lindsay Brown and freshman Megan DiJulio assisted on O'Connor's.
"Every night we come and out and work hard but today was a special one for (the seniors)," Blanchard said. "We wanted to guarantee a win."
With the win, the Lady Cards finished the regular season 22-2-1, 14-1-1 ECAC-West. Their .900 winning percentage is third-best in Division III.
Devereux was the only senior who figured in scoring in Saturday's game, but she said the experience of senior itself made the scoring a moot point.
"It was emotional and exciting," Devereux said. "We showed a lot of effort and really cared about it being senior day. Winning is always the big thing."
