The North Country Small Business Development Center held a ribbon cutting ceremony to kick off the opening of its new satellite office in Lake George Wednesday.

Luisa Sherman, executive director of the Lake George Regional Chamber of Commerce, carved out space in the chamber headquarters for the new satellite office, and now SBDC employees are well on their way to becoming familiar with the area and to building relationships with local business owners.

Sherman said she hopes local business owners will use the services of the new SBDC to increase their profits, expand their businesses and gain employees.

The Lake George Regional Chamber of Commerce has worked with the SBDC for one year on bringing the new satellite office to Lake George.

Business advisers from the North Country SBDC will run the new satellite office. One adviser arrived on Wednesday for the ribbon cutting event, and the staff will increase every Wednesday after that by a few employees.

"We're real pleased to have the chamber host us," Business Adviser Antoniono Maglione said.

The new office is not currently a walk-in center, so appointments will be made for Wednesday nights only. Maglione said weekends in Lake George are busy with tourism, so weekdays are better for meetings, hence the Wednesday office hours.

The center will expand later.

Maglione said Sherman asked for the help in Lake George, and after she found office space in the chamber of commerce headquarters, the deal was sealed.

Because they have additional resources now, Maglione said, they have five advisers available for the new satellite office. They will commit one individual for two to four days a month. These advisers will meet one-on-one with clients.

"We think it's important to have continued contact with the client," Maglione said.

Dee Clark, regional director of the small business development center, said Lake George is part of their service area but it's not adequate yet.
