After the disappearance of 21-year-old Szostak, members of both the Albany and Plattsburgh areas have come together to organize fundraisers for the Joshua Szostak Search Fund.
An upcoming dinner will be sponsored by the Green Island Professional Firefighters on Sunday, Feb. 24 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The dinner, which will include the Chili, Chowder and Chicken Wing Cook Off, will be held at the American Legion Post 927, in Green Island, N.Y. The event will be $8 for adults, $5 dollars for children and will include several raffles.
Students and faculty on the Plattsburgh State campus will also have the opportunity to help in raising money as PSUC students organize a number of fundraisers in the next few weeks.
Zeta Beta Tau fraternity brothers will be tabling in the ACC from March 3 to 7 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Joshua Szostak merchandise can be purchased all week, including wrist bands, pins and shot glasses. T-shirts and sweatshirts will also be available by order.
ZBT Vice President Andrew Reis said following the week of tabling a barbeque will be held at their house, 70 Broad St., where further donations may be made. The barbeque will be hosted Saturday March 8 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m and Joshua Szostak merchandise will be available. ZBT welcomes all students, faculty and community members to come.
Members of the PSUC radio station, the Quake, are currently organizing a benefit concert, with proceeds also going to the Joshua Szostak Search Fund. Promotional Director, Megan Bebee, said the event will be held March 7 at Trinity Episcopal Church. During the time of press Yo! Adrian was the only band lined up and students suggestions for other bands are welcome. More information can be received at the Quake.
Tom Kopaskie, who previously worked with Szostak at the Quake, encourages students to get involved. "Josh was the kind of guy you could always enjoy hanging out with and shooting the breeze. He is the kind of guy to help you out of extreme situations and he is very loyal to friends and family," Kopaskie said. "If you knew him, then definitely help out, if you didn't know him, I would still be doing the same thing. If I knew a student here went missing I would do everything I could to help out."
