The Lady Cardinals host two home conference games this weekend. Tonight they will face New Paltz and tomorrow night will be senior night against Oneonta.
The Cardinals (5-15, 3-9 SUNYAC) are on a nine-game losing streak. Both New Paltz and Oneonta have played Plattsburgh State during the losing streak.
Playing New Paltz (16-6, 10-3 SUNYAC) and Oneonta (15-6, 10-3 SUNYAC) can be rewarding as both teams are tied for first along with Cortland atop the SUNYAC. The Lady Cardinals have a chance to play spoiler.
"We have the opportunity to create some havoc," Head Coach Cheryl Cole said.
In the previous game against New Paltz, PSUC played very well defensively but could not put points on the board.
"Coach Cole gets her team prepared to play and they played good D," New Paltz Head Coach Jamie Seward said.
Their shooting slump that began with SUNYIT has been very difficult to overcome. Foul shot percentages and field goal percentages are low.
"We were struggling with the shots and couldn't score," Cole said.
Junior Elizabeth Silver said, "We are going to stay positive and work on our composure. We will step it up mentally and physically."
New Paltz is currently third in the SUNYAC conference and has a six game winning streak. Sophomore Nicole Sarcone received the ECAC player of the week and is an essential part of defense that allows a SUNYAC-low 56 points per game.
"She runs our team, she can score, she's a great defender," Seward said. "She is an absolute dream for a coach to have."
Freshman Artie Williams has been a powerhouse this year and leads New Paltz in points per game with 12.5 and rebounds (7.6 per game).
"She is the most dangerous player on the team and we did well guarding against her (last time)," Cole said.
Sophomore Casey Clark will be responsible for shutting down Williams.
"I am confident," Clark said. "I blocked a couple last time and I can do guard her by staying low and not pulling for her fakes."
