For two periods Saturday, Elmira College controlled the play and led 1-0.
It wasn't until nearly 12 minutes into the third period that No. 2 Plattsburgh State was able to put a puck in the net.
The game ended in a 2-2 tie - the third tie in the history of the all-time series between the rivals.
The No. 7 ranked Soaring Eagles brought a physical game to Stafford Ice Arena. At the end of the first period, the game was tied at zeros, with PSUC holding a 12-7 shot advantage.
With Elmira serving its fourth penalty of the game in the second, Soaring Eagles' sophomore Karen Colehour was able to break up a pass at the blue line in the defensive zone and poke the puck ahead. On a breakaway, she found the top right of the net over PSUC junior goalie Danielle Beattie's left shoulder.
In the third, PSUC junior Tara Khan got called for cross checking to give Elmira its second power play of the game.
Thirty-one seconds into the power play, sophomore Jamie Kivi netted a wrist-shot from the high left slot to give the Soaring Eagles a 2-0 lead.
PSUC Head Coach Kevin Houle called a timeout with 13:27 remaining in the third period.
"I more or less just told the girls they can still win this," Houle said. "But you have to do it as a team - you can't do it as an individual."
Message received, coach.
At 11:40 of the third period, Division III leading scorer, junior Danielle Blanchard, put the Lady Cards on the board with her 23rd goal of the season. Junior Shay Bywater and sophomore Steph Moberg assisted.
Later in the period, with Elmira serving its seventh penalty of the game, sophomore Laurie Bowler threw a puck in front from a sharp angle at the left side of the net for a power play goal to tie the game, 2-2.
"I couldn't really tell you," Bowler said about how the puck ended in the net. "I just shot it. I wasn't expecting it to go in and didn't think it did at first. I stood there and it happened to go in."
