Although notorious for its historical misfortunate, 13 was the number that represented the No. 12 Plattsburgh State Cardinals' win streak count after their Friday night 87-68 victory against visiting New Paltz.

The Cards improved to 20-2 and an undefeated 13-0 in SUNYAC play as they outworked the Hawks (6-17, 2-12 SUNYAC) in the second half with an array of transition and second chance baskets.

The win marked the second time in school history that the Cardinals reached at least 20 wins as last years squad finished out the season 21-9.

"Our energy wasn't that great (in the first half) and sometimes the way you posture yourself gives teams confidence," PSUC coach Tom Curle said. "When we really started putting it down and playing, we took them out of a lot of things they wanted to run."

The senior frontcourt of center Travis Gorham and forward Khylan Hunt both were the major contributors of the battle of the boards (45-34) and points in the paint. Gorham started early down low, scoring 12 of his 18 in the first half, while also adding 11 boards.

Hunt stayed active all night in the trenches as he pulled down 6 offensive boards. He finished the game with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Senior guard Anthony Williams led the Cards in scoring with a game-high 30 points and matched senior guard Antwane Miller with five assists. After starting the game off cold, missing four jump-shot attempts, Williams attacked the basket while either scoring or setting up his teammates for easy baskets.

"I just try to see the ball go in first and then I go in to basket," Willams said.

Williams is just 28 points shy of breaking Larry Parker's school career scoring record of 1560, set from 1974-78

On Saturday at 4 p.m. they take on Oneonta (11-12) as they also celebrate senior day at Memorial Hall.
