Women's basketball team loses eighth straight

The Plattsburgh State women's basketball team lost its eighth straight game with a 62-53 loss to host Middlebury last night in non-conference action.
The Lady Cardinals led the Panthers 28-22 at the half. After a close back-and-forth game between the two, the game came down to the final minute.
With 1:03 left on the clock, the Lady Cards (5-14,3-8 SUNYAC) were down 54-53. Senior Vanessa Arthurton stepped up to shoot a one-and-one free throw attempt. She missed the first shot and Middlebury took the ball to other end of the court and sank a three pointer.
PSUC was unable to score another point for the duration of the game.
"That was the best 40 minutes we've put together so far," PSUC Head Coach Cheryl Cole said.
Arthurton and sophomore Shoshana Harris both had 11 points and six rebounds to lead PSUC.
The Lady Cardinals shot only 39 percent from the field and committed 21 turnovers.
Middlebury's Ashley Barron led all scorers with 14 total points. She shot 3-7 from beyond the arc.
The Panthers (11-9) had size over PSUC and it showed with two six-foot players. Lani Young had a terrific game, scoring 12 total points and grabbing 14 total rebounds. Kaitlyn Fallon came off the bench to add eight rebounds.
