Plattsburgh State moved up two spots from their third place ranking last week after they defeated Brockport 6-1 last Friday night and Geneseo 5-4 Saturday. PSUC improved their record to 11-1-0 overall, 9-0-0 in the SUNYAC conference.
"We did a great job for 60 minutes against Brockport," Head Coach Bob Emery said. "We didn't really give them a sniff."
Geneseo held a 4-2 lead late in the third period the following night, but the Cards made an improbable comeback.
"We just didn't come forward with our game for two periods," Emery said. "I thought we made a lot of bad passes and tried to do too much."
Regardless of the first two periods, the third and extra period became the ones that made the difference.
Sophomore Phil Farrow tallied with less than seven minutes in the stanza, and PSUC co-leading scorer and point-getter junior Riley Hill recorded his eighth goal and 18th point of the season.
Hill's goal tied the game at four with less than three minutes remaining in the game. Senior C.J. Tozzo ended the game with a score 3:54 into the overtime period.
Junior Nick Rolls and freshman Eric Satim were responsible for PSUC's first two goals in the win.
Freshman Dylan Clarke scored twice against Brockport and has eight goals this season, while Rolls is third in goals with seven.
Rolls opened the scoring against Brockport, with sophomore Andrew Willock, freshman Dan Sliasis and sophomore Tom Breslin each adding a goal in the game.
The Cards continue to see the freshmen class making an immediate impact, with freshmen recording eight points against Brockport.
"I think that the way sports are going now, you're only as good as your freshmen," Emery said. "Every team needs depth."
Satim said, "I think our freshmen are doing very well right now."
