The Plattsburgh State men's basketball team continued to remain undefeated this season as they beat Morrisville and Clarkson this past week.
The Cards, who are currently tied for first place in the SUNYAC East with Cortland, are 5-0 on the season.
Tonight they travel to Oswego for their first conference game of the season.
"We expected to beat Morrisville," senior Ricky Rider said. "But being a conference game, it was definitely a big win."
The Cardinals have five wins on the season but only have one of those victories from the conference.
"It was a really big win," senior Travis Gorham said, who scored 12 points for the Cards. "We must take care of the conference. Every conference game is important."
The Cards sure did play like they meant that.
They blew out the Mustangs 111-69, their highest scoring game of the year and highest scoring SUNYAC opener in school history. Senior Anthony Williams continued to show his remarkable skills, scoring another game high of 18 points. Freshman Errol Daniyan added 16 points while senior Khylan Hunt scored 14.
"We played a great game," Williams said. "It's nice getting that first conference win, especially with all the new guys on the team. We were able to get out there and just work really hard."
The Cards then took a drive to visit Clarkson Tuesday in what would be their last non-conference game outside of two upcoming tournaments. The Cards gave the Golden Knights the same treatment they have given every opponent this season, winning 77-63.
However, Clarkson may have been the Cardinal's biggest test of the season so far.
The men trailed the Golden Knights by ten midway though the first half. They needed to change something around to get them going and found that spark, going on a 21-6 run, Williams had another game-high with 22 points, 11 of them coming from free throws.
"We really weren't into it in the beginning," Gorham said. "But we were able to get the lead at the half, sustain pressure and take the game away from Clarkson. All and all we won, that's all that matters."
