Men's basketball suffers first loss of season to Occidental

Plattsburgh State was unable to hold a four point lead at halftime and Occidental College handed the No. 14 ranked Cardinals their first loss of the season 69-64 on the final day of the Panther-Tiger Classic Wednesday hosted by Chapman University.
A day after narrowly defeating host Chapman 65-63, the Cardinals (7-1) were unable to produce the same results against the Tigers the next night. Occidental (6-2) outscored the Cardinals 44-39 in the second half, shooting 53.6 percent from the field to the Cardinals' 36.7.
Senior Anthony Williams scored a game-high 20 for the Cardinals. Senior Travis Gorham chipped in 18 points and nine rebounds while fellow senior Khylan Hunt scored 11.
The Cardinals woeful shooting performance - 37.5 percent from the field for the night - was also represented at the charity stripe, where the team missed 11 free throws.
The Tigers got 16 points each from Chris Pitcher and Joe Sasich, who also pulled down nine rebounds. Connor Whitman added 15, including a team-high three three-pointers.
