The Plattsburgh State men's hockey team clinched the SUNYAC title Saturday night at Geneseo, securing home ice advantage throughout the championship tournament. PSUC defeated the Knights 6-3, finishing off a successful road trip following a 4-2 win over Brockport.

Freshman Eric Satim's goal 25 seconds into the game gave the Cards a quick lead, but Geneseo's Dan Brown had an answer. Brown scored just 33 seconds after Satim, and the teams were at an unusual one-all tie less than a minute into the opening stanza.

PSUC (21-3, 14-1 SUNYAC) regained the lead 11:28 into the period thanks to a score from sophomore Phil Farrow. However, Geneseo would bring the game to a tie going into the intermission when Mathieu Cyr found the net on a power play.

The Cardinals 20-3 shot-advantage in the second period would remedy a close 10-7 ratio in the first. Freshman Mike Schiavi scored a little more than halfway through the second, and Farrow recorded his second of the night on a 5-on-3 man-advantage.

Third period goals by freshman Dylan Clarke and senior T.J. Cooper would put the game out of reach, despite a late score from former Cardinal and Geneseo player Kevin Galan.

The Cards out-shot Geneseo (6-17, 5-10 SUNYAC) 45-21, with freshman Bryan Hince making 18 saves. PSUC was on the power play seven times, but only managed to score once.

The Cardinals will travel to Potsdam a week from Friday to finish off their regular season schedule. The quarterfinals for the SUNYAC tournament begins Feb. 19.
