Members of this year's 45th Legislation bid farewell to their former positions and wished the best to new and returning members, who expressed their eagerness to get involved and get moving.
Outgoing SA President Kim Garrison and returning Executive Vice President Jacob Avery reminded members of the 45th Legislation that their duties technically don't end until December does.
Among the most eager to get started was newly elected President Angel Acosta. "I feel excited and happy," he said. "Excited to work with the 46th legislation… I look forward to bringing energy and initiative to the many projects that will be co-sponsored by the SA."
These new projects include taking over where the Violence Prevention Project left off, as the project won't be on campus next semester due to a loss of funding. The new president said that he and Jay Koo, who will replace Acosta as the vice president for central affairs, will be working together to mobilize senators to work for women's concerns.
One interesting new endeavor Acosta hopes to introduce is a Plattsburgh Film Festival - contestants will post short films on YouTube, they will be critiqued, and the winner will receive a cash prize.
In short, Acosta said he aims to create new traditions to "build a sense of home" on campus and to bring together the student body and their student government.
