One week after making NCAA all-divisions history by setting the mark for longest unbeaten streak at 35 games, the Plattsburgh State women's hockey team lost to Manhattanville Saturday for the first time in team history, 4-3.

On Sunday, the Lady Cards were able to salvage a split of the weekend series, earning a 2-1 victory.

The Lady Cards set the 35-game unbeaten streak with two wins in the Middlebury Classic. They defeated Williams 2-0 in the opening round and in a rematch of last year's national championship game, defeated Middlebury 3-2 in come from behind fashion.

Last weekend the Lady Cards visited Manhattanville, ranked No. 8 going into the weekend in the USCHO.com national poll. The Valiants were 0-6-3 lifetime against the Lady Cards going into the weekend.

Valiants' senior Amanda Nonis scored the team's fourth goal, her third of the game, late in the third period to put her team ahead, 4-2. A late Lady Cards goal by Stephanie Moberg was not enough to put them over the edge.

"It was quiet and you could feel the tension," Assistant Coach Erin O'Brien said of the locker room after the game. "Everyone was disappointed, but it is part of sports. We're proud of the girls regardless of the outcome of the game."

The Lady Cards took nine penalties totaling 29 minutes in the game.

The loss was their first since March 18, 2006 - a 3-1 loss to Middlebury in the national championship game.

"It was a heartbreaker," junior Shay Bywater said. "We were all upset and knew we couldn't let it happen again."

The Lady Cards found themselves in a battle Sunday. The game was tied 1-1 going into the third period.

With 7:28 remaining in the third period, freshman Stephanie Moon found the back of the net to put the Lady Cards ahead by one. It turned out to be the game winning goal.

The goal was Moon's first of her collegiate career.

"We realized before the game we had to come back and play Plattsburgh hockey," Moon said. "I guess it was a good time for my first goal."
