The Plattsburgh State men's hockey team has moved up to the top spot in Division III hockey ranking, joining the Lady Cardinals who have held the No. 1 spot in women's hockey throughout the season.
It is the first time in school history that both teams occupy the No. 1 ranking in the U.S. College Hockey Online NCAA Division III polls during the same week.
The Cardinal men (11-1 overall), previously seventh, tied for first with the Elmira Soaring Eagles, who handed the Cards their only loss of the season. The Soaring Eagles edged the Cardinals for first place votes 9-8.
The Lady Cardinals continued their season-long hold on first place, receiving 13 first place votes after a weekend sweep of Chatham to improve their overall record to 9-1. Last week, the Lady Cardinals received only seven first place votes.
The women's team has been No. 1 for a school-record 20 consecutive weeks dating to Nov. 20, 2006.
