Acosta said he feels he is ready to step-up to the responsibilities and is in a position to use the leadership skills he has gained in his past positions. As the current Director of Diversity for SUNY student assembly, a resident assistant and a student ambassador, Acosta said he intends to bring more energy and initiative to SUNY and Plattsburgh State.
His agenda includes ideas to use clubs and organizations to spread school spirit on the local level.
Recent achievements have been his involvement in diversity initiatives to create an elective class which would deal with issues concerning class, race, gender and sexual orientation.
He also worked on a resolution considered by the Spitzer administration to benefit underserved and underrepresented students.
Most recently, Acosta said he consulted Don Boyce, a student representative on the SUNY student assembly.
Together they worked to oppose the 5 percent tuition hike for the benefit of SUNY students. "He's a great leader - he's a dynamic speaker." Garrison said.
She added that she thinks his representation of himself and SUNY during his work on national organizations and projects proves that he can represent well in the presidential position.

Many of those VP candidates running unopposed are returning from their current positions.
However, competition does exist for some, as the race for Executive Vice President, Vice President for Central Affairs and Vice President for Finance awaits electronic ballot results Tuesday night.
