MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The No. 1 ranked Lady Cardinals broke the NCAA all-divisions women's hockey record for longest unbeaten streak after shutting out Williams College 2-0 today in the opening round of the Panthers-Cardinal Classic at Middlebury's Kenyon Arena.
The win, the Lady Cardinals fifth straight to open the season, set the NCAA all-divisions unbeaten streak record at 34 games, breaking the previous record of 33 held by ECAC West rival Elmira.
ECAC West points leader Danielle Blanchard netted both goals for the defending NCAA Division III champions, improving the Lady Cardinals to an 5-0 record this season.
The win advances the team to the championship game of the classic tomorrow, where the Cards face the winner of the Elmira/Middlebury game currently in action.
The Lady Cardinals defeated Elmira last year in the ECAC West Championship and then later defeated Middlebury for the Division III national title.
