The NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional ended in a tie as the Plattsburgh State Cardinals tied Geneseo State, the 2005 National Champions, last Saturday 41-41 at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y.

"We all came together and we showed everyone that we got something, junior Brittney Bezjian said. "We proved to Geneseo State and everyone how much we have put into running."

The two top teams in their region got an automatic bid to NCAA Division III Championships in St. Olaf, Minn. tomorrow at 11 a.m. (CST).

This will be the venue for the "tie-breaker."

The Card women were lead by senior Toni Wiszowaty in second (21:22), senior Allison Busby third (21:33), senior Alyssa Recny in fifth (21:51), junior Brittney Bezjian in 15th (22:35), sophomore Jenny Schaffhouser in 16th (22:35), senior Nicole Howard in 52nd (23:51) and senior Jen Taft in 77th (24:24) to round out the top seven over the 6k course. Geneseo picked up places one, four, eleven, twelve and thirteenth for their top five. They won the national championships in 2005 and are currently ranked a top rated team.

This is the second consecutive year PSUC is sending entire team to the national championships. Last year, the Lady Cardinals finished 29th.

The Cardinal men were 15th out of 39 teams. They were lead by freshman Mike Heymann who took 21st (25:23), junior Paul Allison was 81st (26:37), sophomore Chris Ketcham was 93rd (26:49), freshman Mathieu Bilodeau was 101st (26:58), junior Matt Burdick was 119th (27:14), senior Sean Brinkman was 121st (27:16) and sophomore Jack Swartz was 151st (28:13) for the seven qualifiers.

Although the season is over, the Cardinal men are happy with their finish.

"Regionals was great for the men's team even though we didn't place as well as we wanted," Ketcham said.

Earlier this season, the Cardinals previewed the regional course during the NYU Invitational. Vast improvements have been made for the men.

To put their improvements into perspective, Heymann improved on his time over the 8K course by 36 seconds, Ketcham bettered his time by 44 seconds, Brinkman by 33 seconds and Bilodeau by 1:03.
