Her new single isn't the only thing moving around this week.

Britney Spears was ordered by a judge Wednesday to hand custody of her two sons over to ex-husband Kevin Federline, though she was granted some visitation rights.

She's been in the news for drugs, baldness, bad performances and countless mommy adventures, and society is still wondering: "is there an end in sight?"

Word got out recently that Spears is to put out a "toxic" biography of the mayhem the entertainment world has eaten up in the past year, including her battles with chemical dependency and the estranged K-Fed, who Spears claimed used her to make a name for himself. True or false it may be, but it worked.

The back-up dancer with little to look forward to had the right idea: marry one of the hottest pop stars ever and try to get that sorry excuse for a rap career going. Good luck buddy.

The problem there was, even beautiful Britney couldn't make that happen.

If something stinks, it's still going to stink with a pretty face holding it up.

In this case, K-Fed's material might have stunk more because Britney was holding it right up in our faces.

Either way, his career didn't stand a chance after what I listened to of his "music."

So now, with Spears' first single off of her album set to release Nov. 13 - "Gimme More" - shot to No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Digital Songs chart and boomed to No. 3 on Billboard's Hot 100, up from No. 68.

This is actually significant to the music industry in many ways.

With Spears constantly in the news for degrading problems she can't seem to shake, the fans have, and rightfully so, formed an opinion of the woman, placing her just in between Charles Manson and Tom Cruise on the scale of insanity.

But her music is still leaving a mark, and she should be proud of that.

The fans are looking past her dementia and lending a fair, unbiased ear to her work.

I mean, we know the marketing isn't what's selling the single. She made a fool of herself trying to dance like a legless ballerina on mushrooms at the MTV Video Awards, and lip synching wasn't helping much either.

And after all of these foiled trips to rehab and the rebellious head-shaving escapade and anything else she did that's been headlining entertainment news, she's still selling songs.

I expect her album to not do quite as well as her single, but if history is any kind of a trend setter, the album will definitely spend some time on the Billboard's Top 25.

So, without sounding like her allegedly crazy mother, I'd suggest Britney stay clean and focus on her career... still.
