This semester has seen the introduction of a new way of bringing students together. The alumni due has been changed to alumni fee and the service will be more directed to current Plattsburgh State students.

The fee helps in setting up a network of graduates from PSUC, which can help current students connect with people once they graduate. Through this program, anyone who plans to graduate from PSUC can see how graduating from college changes your life.

The fee intends to "[provide] opportunities for student and alumni to maximize all resources: time, talent, and money," Rose Anderson, director of Alumni Affairs said.

The $15 per semester fee has set up a new network of alumni that are serving as connections for current students through the program called Cardinal Connections. This is a service where alumni can sign up to be on a list for graduating students' reference. This network already contains 300 alumni that have graduated from PSUC.

Students at PSUC can contact alumni to help find jobs, advice, or just a sense of direction after they graduate from PSUC.

Other services the fee helps make available to students are the distribution of a student coupon, which includes discounts at places such as Burger King, Whiteface Mountain, Java Joe's and the Econo Lounge, as well as the creation of a student planner. Both are available in the SA office in the Angell College Center. The fee also provides current students with speeches made by returning alumni.

The fee is completely refundable, as long as you had made a request to the Alumni Association office before September 15.

Anderson said the fee has been widely accepted around campus, with fewer than 20 people asking for a refund of the money from their tuition. Anderson emphasizes that students are the number-one concern at the Alumni office, and that questions are welcomed.

The Alumni Affairs Office is trying to broaden their horizons, and is connecting with other organizations on campus in order to increase their influence around PSUC.
