Pack your bags - we're going to China.

Plattsburgh State is sending six faculty members to visit Zhejiang-Wanli University in Ningbo, China. The group hopes to expand its relationships with Zhejiang-Wanli, and looks forward to developing several partnerships in English, global supply chain management and environmental science.

"In all those areas we're looking at possible student exchanges, faculty exchanges, and we anticipate that even this January there will be several students from Zhejiang-Wanli University coming to study here at [PSUC]," said Robert Golden, the school's provost and vice president for academic affairs.

The 15-hour flight is expected to leave today and set to return the following Saturday, Oct. 13.

Among the faculty that will be attending the trip are: Golden, earth and environmental science professor Meiyin Wu, assistant accounting professor Chuo-Hsuan Lee, assistant English professor Alex Mueller and associate Asian studies professor Jeff Hornibrook.

Half of the people attending the trip speak Chinese.

The group will be meeting with the president and provost of Zhejiang-Wanli, along with their department heads of English, environmental science and business, and their faculty who teach in these areas, as well as students who are interested in studying abroad at PSUC.

"I will be meeting with both faculty and students to discuss the environmental

protection certificate program at Plattsburgh State," Wu said. "Students, after completing

two year's study at Wanli, have the option to take 24 credits in one year to complete the certificate program offered by Plattsburgh State."

This will be PSUC's first real partnership with any Chinese university.

Golden said some of the schools long-term goals are to increase the amount of students from Zhejiang-Wanli applying to PSUC and, vice-versa, to establish faculty exchanges amongst the two schools, as well as the hopes of getting students acquainted in different societies which may help them in an already internationally-run world.
