Hamilton College's Peter Kosgei was the individual winner with a time of 25:07.
"We would have liked to do a little better in the team scoring, but with the weather, tough week of training, and experimenting with a new race strategy, I think it was an overall step in the right direction," Brinkman said.
The Cardinal men are looking for an improvement next week at the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh, a large invitational with lots of competition from Division I schools, including Syracuse and Texas Tech.
"There's a lot of buzz on the team about this fast course, a lot of us are looking to run personal bests," Heymann said.
"I expect the men to run fast and to maybe have a few under 27 minutes," Lynch said.
The PSUC women have the same goal of personal bests at Lehigh.
"For the women, I feel like if we get top 15 it would be a huge accomplishment since we're in the Division I race with 45 teams," Lynch said.
Taft said, "Hopefully we'll have lots of personal bests all around, because those really boost everyone's confidence and help show that all our hard work is paying off."
It's getting around the time of cross country season where momentum and big performances can pay off, even without the comfort of a top ranking.
"I don't think we are a legitimate contender for a number one ranking, but whether or not I think we are a legitimate contender for first place finish in November is another thing," Lynch said.
