Plattsburgh State is set to start a series of renovations that will improve some of the facilities while beautifying the campus in what some would call a much-needed facelift.

Hudson Hall, Beaumont Hall and Ward Hall will be undergoing renovations in the near future. But improving new buildings is the not only way to give PSUC a face lift. The old building next to Banks Hall is scheduled to be demolished in spring 2008.

"It's obvious if you go by," said Facilities Director Stan Supinksi. "I think that the building has really become an eyesore. Really, it is deteriorating to a point that if we were to continue to utilize it we would have to put an extraordinary amount of money to fix it up."

The building was built in the '60s and used as a hospital, but after being deeded to PSUC after Plattsburgh Hospital left the site, the building has been converted into a storage area for the campus.

The building is used to store materials such as crates, piles of admission catalogs, files, plumbing supplies and electric equipment. The materials such as lead paint and tile will be disposed of.

In response, the campus has already built a new building to replace it. A building was constructed specifically for storage behind Sibley Hall.

When the old storage building is torn down, the contents will be transported to the new storage building which is equipped with 20 units each 20-by-20 in size. Other academic buildings' storage rooms will be cleaned out if necessary to make new use for those rooms.

The new building will be sufficient, as opposed to the old building that is in need of several constructional repairs.

"The roof is gone, the windows are gone, the heating system has just about had it, and we will have to put in a new elevator," Supinksi said. "I mean that it has gone beyond repair and it's a building that you just don't want to have around."

Following the demolition of the old storage building, plans have already been arranged as to what will happen with the newly acquired space.

"We are scheduled to put in temporary parking spaces and it hasn't been designed yet - it would be looked at for future expansion." Supinski said.

New parking spaces will be needed, due to the loss of spaces during the Hudson Hall renovations.

But the space is still under speculation depending on what the university needs. Plans for new parking spaces or a new building are too far in the future to tell.
