However, that was not the only interesting casting choice.

The King of Hearts will be played by a woman, the Queen of Hearts by a man, and the White Rabbit by an African-American actor.

Shout specifically wants to give the audience something different.

The extraordinary casting will help to dispel the preconceived notions the audience will surely have about the familiar story.

Others' thoughts on Alice are not the biggest challenge for this production, though.

The Hartman Theatre is, as of now, closed off because of an asbestos issue.

Although the general opinion in the theatre department is that Alice will be up on the Hartman stage, there is a chance that it will be relocated to the Studio Theatre. Now, they are between locations.

Alice is a story that many hold close to their hearts. But does it apply to a college-age audience?

"I think it is a cynical look at the aging process," senior George Trevlakis, who is playing the White Knight, said about the play.

It is a positive piece for the modern audience because "it is a return back to our childhoods - to an imaginary world."

Junior Tyler Nye has the pleasure of playing the Queen of Hearts. "I am psyched," he said.

"Underneath all of the nonsense, there is something to be said about never losing a youthful mentality," Nye said. "(Alice) has a lot to do with growing up and the experiences we go through before we consider ourselves adults."

The student-created piece will be performed for PSUC students the Plattsburgh community Nov. 7-10.

If all goes well, it will bring the audience back to the imagination, simplicity and wonder of childhood.
