It's that time of year again - the time when parents, brothers, sisters and grandparents all arrive to spend 48 hours roaming the campus, meeting the Plattsburgh State officials and most of all spend ing time with their favorite college student. That's right - it's Family Weekend.
PSUC family weekend 2007 will run from Friday Sept. 28 through Sunday Sept. 30. The planning for this weekend went into action nearly a year ago after last year's Family Weekend finished.
This year, the majority of the planning has been done by Cori Matthews, director of campus activities at the Center for Service, Learning and Volunteerism. Matthews expects to have a decent turnout of families this year and said that as of Thursday, Sept. 20 there were about 180 people registered. She expects many more will arrive without registering.
"Lots of people come last minute," Matthews said. "Some don't sign up for scheduled events, and so never bother to send in the registration form."
According to Matthews, those coming this year range from just parents to whole families.
She said that while some families have only registered for two or three guests, there are many groups of six as well. There also appear to be families visiting students of all ages - underclassmen as well as upperclassmen.
"There seem to be quite a few families of off-campus students," Matthews said.
The itinerary for this year offers almost 20 scheduled on and off campus events in which families can take part.
These events include activities such as Intro. to Rock Climbing at 9 a.m. on Saturday in the Fitness Center, an Alumni Reunion at 2 p.m. in the Cardinal Lounge and Ice Skating with Burghy from 3-4 p.m. on Saturday in the Field House arena.
The full schedule is available on the PSUC Web site under student life.
At many of these events, families will be able to meet with PSUC officials to discuss various aspects of student life and academics.
