The guys played at home this past Saturday against SUNYIT, for their first SUNYAC game of the season, winning 2-0. Sophomore John LoGuirato scored his second goal of the season earlier in the game at the 30th minute on a pass from sophomore Mike Pinamonti, giving the Cards the early lead.
It wouldn't be until the 65th minute that freshman Chris Taylor would score the final insurance goal on a pass from sophomore Chad Shennett, putting the Cards on top of SUNYIT 2-0.
The guys would then travel down to Castleton State on Tuesday for their first road game, also shutting out the Castleton 2-0. The freshman Taylor continued to give a remarkable performance, scoring both goals in the game, keeping the Cards undefeated.
Although Taylor's stats looked great during the game on paper, he said, "It was a really slow game and we had a lot of trouble. It wasn't my best game, but the whole entire team overall did really well as the game went on."
The two goals put Taylor at a team leading 6 goals on the year and second in the SUNYAC with 13 points.
Another big story on the year is the star player between the pipes for the Cards. Junior John San Filippo has been nothing but spectacular for the team as he recorded his 6th win on the season along with his impressive 6th shutout in a row.
"I've been really lucky that I've only had to save a little over 5 shots during the season and the four guys in front of me have done an excellent job," San Filippo said
He also said the Spartans were "very defensive against us and we were a little swell at first, but we were able to cover well."
It seems defense has been the key tool for the Cardinal's great success this entire season but, they're going to need even stronger defense this weekend when they face SUNYAC rivals Brockport and defending SUNYAC Champions Geneseo.
