Both the Plattsburgh State men's and women's track and field teams will compete in the SUNYAC championships this weekend at SUNY Fredonia.
While the men's outdoor track team hopes to build off its success at the Hamilton Invitational, the women's track team hopes to bounce back after an uneventful performance last weekend.
"We had plenty our second and third place finishes under our belts, but we haven't peaked yet," Head Coach Brett Willmott said.
"There will be bigger performances in the near future. Every event is a challenge for us. SUNY is very competitive across the board so we look to have this level help us continue to improve," he said.
The men's track and field had an impressive showing, dominating in the 400-meter hurdles, 200-meter dash, 100-meter dash and the 5,000-meter run.
Senior hurdler Jason Dessureault took first in the 400-meter hurdles, as sophomore Jeff Dobson raced to second in both the 100 and 200-meter dash at times of 11.14 and 27.40 respectively.
Senior Andrew Hunsinger also finished second in both events, milliseconds short of Dobson.
Robert Asher paced the men's track team, earning top honors in the 5,000-meter run at a time of 15.46.97.
Jon Daly continues his success, with a first place finish in the long jump and second in the men's 400-meter dash.
The PSUC men's 4x400 relay team, which includes sophomores Geoff Sitch, Dobson, Matt Bauer and Dessureault, earn top honors with a time of 43 minutes 68 seconds, just a hundredth of a second ahead of Oswego.
Overall the men's track team took home four first place finishes in the meet.
Dobson led the way with a time of 11.19, Hunsinger finished second at 11.29, and Bauer took fifth with a time of 11.40. Sitch qualified fourth with a time of 11.39.
The women's track team was not as impressive as the men's team, but did manage to earn more ECAC and SUNYAC qualifiers, with several top finishes.
Senior sensation Samantha Paul and freshman stand-out Amber Heath finished third and fourth in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dash respectively. Paul had a time of 13.18 in the 100-meter dash, which was a tenth of a second ahead of Heath.
