During the recent run by the Cards, they went through Brockport, Fredonia, Buffalo State, Geneseo and Potsdam. They had doubleheaders against all five teams.
The Cards first beat Brockport 6-3 and 8-2.
In the first game, Zweig pitched a complete game and struck out nine while giving up three runs. Andrea Napear singled in the first inning putting the Cards up 2-0 and they never looked back, going on to win 6-3.
In the second game, Leitze was on the mound. She also went a complete game and gave up two runs while striking out 10. Jen Nescio led the way for the Cards with two hits and three RBIs in the game.
Next for the Cards was Fredonia. The Cards won both games of the doubleheader, 1-0 and 8-2.
The first game, a 10-inning thriller was won by Leitze when she came on in relief after Zweig went seven scoreless innings. Stephanie Blood scored in the 10th inning to win the game off of a Kirby Davids single.
In the second game, the Cards made sure to take the lead early.
The Cards capitalized with a five run second inning. Leitze got the start on the mound for a complete game and struck out 10 while allowing five hits to pick up her second win on the day.
Next, the Cards would face Buffalo State.
The Cardinals split the doubleheader winning the first game 5-4 and losing the second game 4-2.
Zweig pitched game one, going 6 2/3 innings and struck out two while giving up three runs. Leitze came in as a reliever and earned the win when the Cards won in extra innings.
Danielle Gjergji had an RBI triple in the ninth inning and Gjergji was bunted home by Tiffany Burek which proved to be the winning run.
In the second game, Leitze pitched for the Cards. Leitze went 4 2/3 innings and struck out 11.
She gave up four runs, only one of them being earned. After a Davids error, Aimee Fisher homered for Buffalo State, putting them up 2-0 and they would go on to win 4-2.
Next up would be Geneseo. The Cards defeated Geneseo 5-1 and 9-1. The win launched the Cards up to fourth in the SUNYAC standings.
After, Geneseo would be Potsdam. The Cards would defeat Potsdam 9-0 and 11-0. Both games only lasted five innings.
"Fatigue is definitely a factor for us," Head Coach Sean Cotter said. "Every team is in the same boat in the conference so we need to get through it and keep doing the things that we do well."
The Cardinals have six more conference games (three doubleheaders) before the SUNYAC tournament.
The Cortland and Oswego series will be played at home, with the Lady Cards traveling to SUNYIT to play in the last conference game of the regular season.
Being in the middle of a 20-game, 11-day stretch, Plattsburgh will have a much needed five-day rest before the SUNAYC tournament, scheduled for May 4. With good performances this weekend, The Cardinals will be able to obtain a better seed in the SUNYAC and give themselves higher ground in route to defending the SUNYAC championship the team won last year.
