With the recent Dr. Patrick R. Damore Distinguished Service Award being given to Plattsburgh State's own Peter Luguri, I thought this would be a good time to highlight the athletic staff here at PSUC.
Or should I say the wonderful staff we have here in the athletic department.
Even though Luguri no longer serves under the Cardinal athletic command, he is still a great representation of the hard-working people we have here.
First and foremost, Patrick Stewart and Kerry Chapin at sports information have been nothing but cooperative and supporting of everything we do here at Cardinal Points. They work countless hours not only in the sports information office, but they put in extra time working games for statistics, photos and even traveling to a big away game during a playoff period. They have always helped us out when we needed to know something that was going on in the world of Cardinal sports.
Scott Hildreth, who is the assistant women's basketball coach, also puts in his extra time to supervise the Plattsburgh chapter of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SACC). He takes time out of his schedule to advise SAAC and helps better the relationship between the athletes and students on campus and the rest of the Plattsburgh community.
Leith Bardon has made sure all of those who are not exactly "Cardinal athlete" material still have a chance to play the sports we love. Organizing all of the intramural sports and coordinating the sports clubs has made it possible for the rugby team and pickup ice hockey games to go on.
The staff at the fitness center has always been helpful with any information regarding physical training or healthy-lifestyle tips. Organizing the Fitness Center Challenge has been a great way to get students to the gym in a more fun and interactive way.
The coaching staff, whether their teams win or lose, gives us the information we need.
Although it may be hard to track them down sometimes, they have given us a better insight as to what actually goes on in the huddle, or in the locker rooms or dugouts.
And for the players, who have been professional and mature to the peer media - thanks.
There are so many more people in the athletic departments that help out - there isn't enough room in this column to recognize them all.
So next time you're watching a Cardinal sporting event, think of all the work that has been put into that single game.
From the athletic director, to the sports information office, coaches, players, and yes - even the media. It all makes Cardinal sports what it is to students on this campus.
