Davis said his short term goals for his new position are to develop an assessment plan which evaluates how existing major plans are working. He said he also wants to better understand how academic departments and divisions across the campus use assessment results to achieve their goals.
Golden said long term goals include making sure assessment efforts become so much a part of the culture that it is engrained into the way the college does business. Other goals include assessing general education goals and program reviews.
Davis said he hopes in his new job he can continue to meet short and long term goals set by the college. He wants to make sure that as an institution SUNY general education requirements are met and Middle States standards for reaccreditation are reached.
Assessment is done through a variety of tools, Davis said, but one of the best tools is surveys. In order to assess how well the school is doing surveys are given to students, faculty and alumni to determine how well PSUC is doing in meeting its goals.
Golden said it could become a full-time position in the future - in which case a nation-wide search would be done.
For now Davis is going to focus on the task at hand.
"I look forward to working closely with administrators to address assessment and planning activities," Davis said.
