From the Indigo Girls to Stevie Wonder, Tim Miller finds influence in almost every kind of music. Miller, one of the four performers at Saturday's 2007 Summer Kick-Off Concert, plays the acoustic guitar and performs songs filled with personal meaning and heartfelt messages.
In fall 2006, Miller was invited to play at Plattsburgh State and loved the experience.
"I knew when I left that I would love the opportunity to come back," Miller said. "When Plattsburgh invited me back to play on April 28 - it was a no-brainer."
The drummer in Miller's band, John Perreault, is also a PSUC alumnus, making the Summer Kick-Off Concert an obvious choice for the band, Elizabeth Thompson, Student Association vice president for activities, said.
Miller and his band also perform at many other colleges, however, including Castleton State College, located in Vermont, where he will be performing the day before his PSUC performance.
Miller's most recent album, "Out of the Box", an 11-track album released in July 2004, includes songs such as "Anytime", "If Only", "Southbound" and "Spell it Out", all of which he plans to perform at the concert.
He said he also plans to perform some songs that will be on his new album, set for release in fall 2007, and some cover songs. He said one of the reasons he enjoys playing in the Plattsburgh area so much is the people.
"It's great to be an artist coming through the area," Miller said. "There's a lot of support for and genuine curiosity in new music up here. It's certainly something I feel every time I come through."
He said connecting with the audience and hanging out with people after the show is his favorite thing about performing.
Similar to the other bands performing at the concert, including MP3, Naughty by Nature and Marc Broussard, Miller will be available after his performance to sign autographs.
Miller accepted a bid of $750 from the Activities Coordination Board (ACB) to play at this year's concert.
Although he had no requests listed in his contract, Perreault never received a PSUC mug upon graduation and asked for one.
The mug will be provided by the school.
