One of the most anticipated annual Plattsburgh State events has been debated, changed, renamed, protested, and, finally, decided upon.

The 2007 Summer Kick-Off Concert, previously referred to as Springfest and the Spring Concert, will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 28, in the Field House.

The concert, which was held inside for the first time in 2003 due to weather conditions and underage drinking, will feature four performances.

The headlining act, Marc Broussard, will be accompanied by Naughty by Nature and Tim Miller, as well as opening act and winner of PSUC's Battle of the Bands competition, MP3.

Students who paid the $70 Student Association fee can purchase tickets for $5.

It is $8 for non-Plattsburgh State students and $12 for general admission.

Raffle tickets will be available to all students who purchase concert tickets. Although Elizabeth Thompson, Student Association vice president for activities, is not sure what the prize for the raffle will be, she said it will be substantial, possibly an iPod or a TV.

SA President Kim Garrison said she is looking forward to seeing the result of the time and effort put into planning and coordinating the concert.

"I really am pumped for the concert," Garrison said. "Whatever number of students show up to the concert we'll be ready for them. We want to have a fun, safe event."

Thompson said although she has received mixed feedback from other students, she is anxious to see how many people come and how the event turns out as a whole.

"I've talked to people who are really excited and I've talked to people who don't care," Thompson said. "We're hoping for a good turnout. I'm really excited to see how it comes together."

I enjoyed the concert a lot last night, but I was surprised to see there were much fewer audience members than I had expected.

Marc Broussard's music was really good, so I don't blame him at all. (Continued…)
