Whether the PSUC men's lacrosse team wins or loses, most of the 40-man roster sees some game action with different players picking up their play in each game. Kavanagh said everyone is usually involved and contributes to the team's overall performance.

Goalie Billy Hughes managed 18 saves while splitting his time with freshman goalie, Mike Dell'Aera, who played most of the second half and also stopped 18 shots.

"Before the game we decided we would switch to Dell'Aera at goalie. Hughes' play was never a factor in our decision," Kavanagh said. "Dell'Aera works hard every day in practice and all season, he deserves a chance to play so we gave him the opportunity."

The PSUC lacrosse team is holding all opponents to less than 100 shots-on-goal in the first, second and third periods combined this season.

While still struggling to stop some shots and ranking sixth in the SUNYAC in points-against, the PSUC men's lacrosse team sits atop the conference in scoring with 165 goals and a shooting percentage of nearly 61 percent this season.

The Cardinals out-shot the Lakers 58-45 in the game, holding Oswego to only one goal in the fourth period. PSUC also played solid in man-up scoring opportunities with a 45-33 advantage in groundballs and two of 11 in man-down defense.

As a team, the Cardinals have outscored its opponents in the second, third and fourth periods by a combined score of 120-44 this season.

So far this season, the Cardinals have committed 77 total penalties, which include the 11 they committed against Oswego.

Kavanagh said the aggressive play dictates how many penalties they receive each game, with a little more team consistency and self-control, he said they should be in good shape.

With three more crucial conference games left until the SUNYAC championships, the PSUC men's lacrosse team heads to Brockport on Sunday.

After Sunday's game, the Cards will head to Oneonta on Wednesday, April 25, for another conference game on the road.

The Cardinals will then return home next Saturday, April 28, to face Geneseo in the last regular season game of the year.

The SUNYAC championships will run from May 2 to May 5.

"In the past we've had some success against these teams," Kavanagh said. "We want to win all four and if we can't win them all, we want to win enough so we make the playoffs. Our overall record is solid at 8-4, but right now we're concerning ourselves with winning one conference game at a time."
