Westaff Inc., a national company, is a "job placement and human resources company that works to fill positions locally," McClelland said.

It has national accounts through a corporation based in California for most national job-posting Web sites that allow both job posting and the ability to search for applicants, she said.

Westaff then posts and searches at its office at West Bay Plaza in Plattsburgh. Depending on the time of year and the job market, one method is used more than the other, but McClelland said overall "it's about 50-50."

Even though McClelland said most of Westaff's work is done locally, she also said, "We can find someone who lives in Massachusetts but wants to relocate to this area."

Instances like that are not uncommon, she said.

Barry said the Career Development Center has targeted job Web sites based on major, allowing students to search specific jobs. She said the center encourages any student in the job market to visit them and possibly even one of its job counselors. Resume and cover letter proofreads are also offered.

"The key to getting hired is to keep actively looking for a job," Barry said. "That means pursuing all possible networks - don't post it then go take a nap."
