The viewers learn why Winter fled her life dedication to spreading the word of God in other countries, but much of her life other than the single moment is overlooked.
The case is much worse for Ben. There is a single scene of about 15 seconds when there is a look deeper into why he is the way he is, and from then on, he is returned to his role as a background character who offers a catchy line now and then.
The same can been said for many of the other supporting characters.
"The Reaping" is an interesting attack on an overdone genre but it lacks depth.
The result is a movie that is pleasing visually but leaves viewers guessing, which will easily lead to disappointment for anyone.
The movie never really attacks why these things were happening and never takes a stab at whether Winter was right in all of her attacks on Christianity or if there really is such a thing as a miracle.
There was plenty of ground left uncovered.
