The Devils are the lowest-scoring team in the postseason so the team will rely on Brodeur more to win games.

The New York Rangers are on a roll - winning seven of its last 10 games. With Jaromir Jagr, Brendan Shanahan and Sean Avery on the wing, the Rangers have the playoff experience a team needs to succeed.

The Atlanta Thrashers won its first Southeast Division title ever.

The Thrashers struggled on special teams throughout the year and it showed in the statistics - they finished the year ranked 26th in the NHL.

Teams will not worry about playing a more physical game with the Thrashers, which will wear them down and find them watching the rest of the playoffs at home.

The Pittsburgh Penguins and the Ottawa Senators finished in second place in their respected divisions and both finished with 105 points.

The Penguins sport a much younger team led by NHL leading-scorer Sidney Crosby. If Crosby gets going, the Penguins will follow, but if this does not happen it will be a short series favored by the Senators.

The Senators have the determination and the veteran leadership to outplay the Penguins at home and away.

How about the Carolina Hurricanes? The defending champs are on the outside after finishing 40-34-8 and finishing four points out of the playoffs.

Western Conference

The Western Conference has proven to be the best NHL conference. Seven teams finished with more than 100 points for the year. It was led by the No. 1 seed Detroit Red Wings, who finished tied with the Buffalo Sabres for the league points lead.

For most of the series', you might as well flip a coin to pick a winner.

The "Dominator" Dominick Hasek will be important for the Red Wings to make a run to the finals against a levy of talent. He has done it in the past and will again as the Red Wings will be hoisting the cup when the playoffs are completed.

Every series will be tough with the teams so close in talent and many goalies lacking playoff experience.
