Being involved at a high level of management and trying to reach goals, he said, will help him at PSUC.
He said he wants to bring a collaborative spirit to the public relations and marketing team.
He wants to learn from the past and present, and said he believes the team has a lot of potential.
Kinney did not know a lot about Plattsburgh when he first heard about the job.
He has since made visits to the city to learn as much about it as he could.
He said he feels there is a good college and city relationship and the fortunes of the city are tied to the fate of the college.
For now, his days will be filled with meeting key people at PSUC, speaking with students and getting to know his new public relations and marketing team.
He said what he misses about his old job were the people he worked with, but he hopes to have a good relationship with his new team.
Kinney said he is glad he got the position at PSUC and is happy to be here.
"It's a huge learning curve and many people want to help me," he said.
