April in Plattsburgh consists of more than rainy days and whipping wind.

For Plattsburgh State, April is a crucial time to interact with potential students, attracting and introducing them to the college.

"We offer to answer as many questions as possible," Rich Higgins, director of admissions and associate vice president for enrollment management, said. "There is a wide range of visiting opportunities throughout the year."

One visiting opportunity PSUC offers to potential students in April is weekday campus-wide tours, available to individual families or in groups that explore the campus from a student's point of view.

Potential students and their families said they believe having a student guide makes the tour more practical than if a faculty member were to conduct it.

"(The student tour guide) was extremely helpful," Steven Dodd, campus tourist and father of one potential student, said.

Aside from currently enrolled PSUC students who thought it would be humorous to tell the tourists "not to come here 'cause it sucks,'" potential students' parents didn't see much they didn't like and found the tour to be "very informative."

"It seems like there is so much available both academically and socially," Lynn Dodd, Steven's wife, said.

Prospective students approve of the tours too.

"It seems like there are a lot of different opportunities available," Jennifer Dodd, daughter of Steven and Lynn, said. "I could see myself going to school here."

Higgins said the university tries to demonstrate as many perspectives as possible when hosting potential students and their families - from a student perspective to an admissions perspective, as well as an academic perspective to an outside-the-classroom perspective along with much more.
