Little Italian men with mustaches jumping over blocks, throwing fire balls, and being chased by turtles - a scene that might come to mind on Wednesday, Dec. 6 at the Guitar Ensemble concert. The concert is at 7:30 p.m. in the Krinovitz Recital Hall in Hawkins Hall at Plattsburgh State University College. The show will feature the Guitar Ensemble, and include performances by several individuals from the group.

The Guitar Ensemble will play music with themes from the first level of the video game Super Mario Brothers II. Michael Fratino arranged each part for this piece. It will feature a few soloists from the group. Fratino teaches guitar lessons and classes, and also leads the Guitar Ensemble.

The ensemble will also play "Because" by the Beatles. For this piece some of the performers will play the rhythm, some will take the melody, and a few will play the vocal lines of the song. The group is made up of about 10 students who play acoustic guitars.

Most of the ensemble will perform along with Fratino for their individual pieces, with a few of the students performing solos. The individual performers will play pieces that they have worked on throughout the semester. Their pieces will be in different styles depending on their personal genre of interest.

Some of the pieces are original compositions, while some of the different genres are jazz, classical, Spanish classical, rock or pop.

One of the individuals performing, Brian Nopper, will play "a driving rock-metal piece on acoustic" along with Fratino. Another student, Corey Marsico, will play "Stash" by Phish arranged by Fratino. Other performances will feature songs by Metallica, Led Zeppelin, and Tommy Emmanuel.

Instead of playing video games this Wednesday night, come experience the talents of the students at Plattsburgh State University College. Admission is free and open to the public.
