In the last edition of the Cardinal Points, published on Nov. 3, an article was printed titled "Unhealthy patterns lead to student weight gain."
In the article, I was quoted as saying, "In high school, parents make you eat breakfast and they cook meals".
I am disappointed because I feel the content of the article misrepresented the intention of my interview.
The content that was omitted from the interview specifically mentioned the consumption of alcohol and unhealthy food choices is, in my opinion, by far the greatest contributor to the "freshman 15."
Some college students are consuming more alcohol at college then previously consumed.
Alcohol contains empty calories, and mainly of the mix drinks contains high sugar mixers.
With a hectic schedule of college students, it's hard to take the time to eat a well balanced meal.
Fast foods that are eaten on the run tend to be high fat, high carbohydrate foods. The increase consumption of these foods along with the intake of high sugar drinks leads to a weight gain.
This article overall covered many important points in regards to weight gain in some college students.
I find that the above points are equally if not more important to the issue of the "freshman 15."
