Illegal immigrant charged in rape of UAlbany student
ALBANY - A 16-year-old illegal immigrant from Mexico was sentenced Tuesday to 33 years in state prison in the brutal knifepoint rape in December of a University at Albany student and two separate burglaries. Felipe Dejesus-Flores pleaded guilty previously to breaking into the young woman's home on Dec. 10, waking her from a sound sleep and then raping her.

Former Plattsburgh teen causes stir with Hitler costume
NEW YORK - A Brooklyn high school student and former Plattsburgh resident, caused a stir when he showed up for class dressed as Adolf Hitler for Halloween. Walter Petryk, 16, defended his costume Tuesday, insisting it was a satire of the Nazi dictator. School administrators ordered the junior honors student to remove his beige coat bearing a red swastika armband or possibly face spending the day in the office, Petryk told the New York Post for Wednesday editions.
Couture being held in Arizona; could be facing murder charges
MOOERS FORKS - David D. Couture is being held in Phoenix, Ariz. as a fugitive from justice and could face murder charges upon his return to New York state. Couture had been named prime suspect in the Alphegina "Gina" Snide homicide case.

Six killed as historic Reno hotel burns;
woman arrested
RENO, Nevada - A woman who previously served prison time for second-degree murder was arrested Wednesday and accused of setting a blaze that killed six people and gutted much of a historic brick building in Reno's downtown casino district. Valerie Moore, 47, a casino cook, was arrested on arson and murder charges stemming from Tuesday night's blaze at the Mizpah Hotel that police said began when she set fire to a mattress.

Man held in two brush fires is investigated in fatal blaze
LOS ANGELES - The police are investigating whether a man charged this week in two brush fires may be connected to last week's wildfire near Palm Springs that killed five United States Forest Service firefighters. The man, Raymond L. Oyler, 37, of Beaumont, was arrested on Tuesday on charges of setting two brush fires in June in Banning Pass.

Columbian rebels kill at least 16 police in attack
BOGOTA, Colombia - Hundreds of leftist rebels bombarded a remote police station with makeshift mortars during a pre-dawn attack in northern Colombia Wednesday, killing at least 16 officers, authorities said. The six-hour assault in the village of Tierradentro, 230 miles (360 kilometers) northwest of Bogota, was the bloodiest since President Alvaro Uribe was re-elected in May in a landslide that endorsed his get-tough policy with the rebels.
