The Plattsburgh State men’s soccer team was able to narrowly come away with a victory Friday night over Fredonia State, 1-0, and notch yet another conference win.

Neither team was able to capitalize on their shot attempts in the first half as the game remained scoreless after the first 45 minutes. PSUC (14-1-0, 5-1-0) outshot the Blue Devils (4-11-0, 3-3-0) 8 to 5 in the first half.

However, it didn’t take long for the Cardinals to get on the board in the second half. In the 53rd minute, Jason Baker was able to capitalize off of a corner kick when the ball got loose in front of the goal and he put it past Fredonia State goalkeeper Mike Schreiner from 6 yards out, to put the Cards ahead 1-0. The goal marks Baker’s 2nd of the season. Joe Aratari was credited with the assist on the play.

PSUC never looked back after that goal, and the score would stay the same for the remainder of the game. Cards’ goalkeeper Zach Kruizenga, who started in place of the injured Andy Heighington, made 2 saves in the shutout victory while Fredonia State goalkeeper Mike Schreiner made 10 saves on the night.

The victory marks the Cardinals’ fourth straight victory as they head into the final portion of their regular season schedule. PSUC has four games remaining, including one tomorrow afternoon against Buffalo State (1-11-1, 0-5-1) at 1 p.m. on Coyer Field in Buffalo, N.Y.
