I'm posting here since the original article is overloaded with comments.
Oh yeah, "Ricky," you're a big man for putting your first name so that everyone can recognize you. Those letters are my intials and are close to being an actual name that someone can figure out by what I say than just a first name, dick head.

I'm not squimish about menstual blood or nudity or sex of any kind. All I said is that it could have been written more tastefully. I thought the article was a good topic until offensive language was thrown into it for all to see. If you were a journalism major or knew anything about it, you would know the ettiquette and ethics that go along with it. And for your information, I was not offended by much of what is said in the article, it's the ignorant tone in which it is written. Because I am a writer myself, I do not agree with censoring things, but this kind of writing is not art or journalism, this is shit. The fact that you aren't a woman explains why you share no common ground with any girl, or guy, for that matter on the offensive material shown in this article. Maybe you should learn a bit more about what you're arguing so you don't embarrass yourself next time, you ignorant, ignorant boy. If you agree that something like this was written, your just as ignorant as the guy who wrote this.

"Ricky," period blood sure as hell isnt a joke nor was it intended to be (I know this for a fact.) Oh and again, IF YOU KNEW WHAT THE FUCK YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT, you would know that networks like Fox are shitty journalists because they are one-sided and that the man who owns them is who controls everything. The Daly Show is a comedy, this article is not. Get your shit straight, asshole. If you honestly believe that this is "journalistic freedom," well then you're the reason why many people hate journalists for being inaccurate and one-sided. You're the reason why there's hate in this country. You're the reason journalism majors are becoming a dying breed. You're the reason one-sided journalism exists and why errors prevail in the media. I hope you like your media contsantly incorrect because one-sided bullshit stories like these are what makes the world a shittier place.

...and just on another note. We have something called Journalistic freedom in this country, it stems from freedom of the press. That means that you don't actually HAVE to show both sides of an argument. Have you ever seen the Daly Show? Or Fox News? They only present a very biased oppinion, yet they are on TELEVISION. MMS maybe you should study journalism a little harder....

Again to the author - I'm sorry if you're going to have a bunch of nuts e-mailing you and complaining about your article. But again, just think, you are well on your way to being a REAL journalist because now you have a story to tell. These zealots never seem to realize the power they give to someone when they get all worked up over something. They are fools like that. Too all of you who can't take a joke...PERIOD BLOOD!!!!!!! here's my e-mail address: robostripping@vagina.com

I'll put my name because I'm not a coward...

Get over it. This is an article in a SUNY Newspaper, its not the times, its not CNN - get over it. All you people and your whistle blowing give this article the power that you don't want it to have. GET OVER IT! It's something that happens, maybe somewhat tasteless, but then again, what comedy isn't? MMS - you have nothing better to do than rag (pun intended) on some student's article because its about menstruation - something you obviously are squeamish about. If the author reads this - good job, thanks for shaking these puritans up.

Asleep At The Wheel, Part 2: If you knew anything about journalism and it's rules involving schools, you would know that public schools have the right to print anything they want and they don't have to answer to anyone. I study journalism at this school and although I share some of the thoughts on this page, I disagree with you that Murphy should be held accountable for the student editor's decision to publish this. I'm not saying it should have been printed because a journalist should know that something so appauling and tasteless shouldn't be printed at all, but Murphy doesn't see the paper until it's printed since he doesn't have control over the material in the paper.

I think that CP needs to verify what kind of column Sex and the Suny is. I mean, is it an Op-Ed section or should it have facts like a news article? Either way, I kind of feel that although this is Jon's opinion, it does not have the right to be published in a student paper, especially if he is a journalism major. He should know better than to write something for all to see like this. A journalist is supposed to know the difference between his opinion and his opinion in a newspaper. Unfortunately, the world can't handle such opinions as Jon's at the moment, even if others may agree with him.

This article gives Cardinal Points and journalism students a bad name. I think that Jon just felt he needed to compete with Adam's hilariously awesome articles and his version of that just came out ignorant.

The editors of CP should be just as much, if not more, to blame for this atrocity. It disturbs me that no apology letter was ever written, but that letter's to the editor expressed frustration. As if letters to the editor substitute for an apology...ha. It also disturbs me that the editors themselves were not "taken care of" during this whole thing. Ms. Fleck's reaction and comments to the letters to the editor were uncalled for and expressed her true feelings about what she published in the paper. She wasn't sorry at all - that's for sure.

IF (IF) you are going to write something controversial, your job as a writer is to have both sides, keep your opinion out of it and above all, be tasteful.

Hmm.
Actually, what this article leads me to believe is that you have never, actually, been naked with a lady on her period. Have you ever even had sex with a lady? If she lost that much blood, she would need a transfusion and might be dead. If you were not in bed with a murder victim, methinks you needed something scaaaandalous to write about and remembered some story about period sex you'd heard once and decided to make it your own.

This is kind of like how when men write about sex, they imagine that women like huuuuuge penises- the longer, the better! Also, that women have giant orgasms just from you touching their nipples!

I second the sentiments of "2007 Alum". Call Shawn Murphy today and tell him what you think of this. When he tells you that he, as faculty adviser, has no authority over what appears in this paper, DO NOT LET HIM OFF THE HOOK! Ask him what responsibility he feels he has as a professional journalist, a college professor, and as a human being.

Perhaps his answer will be "none". But press him on this. Ask the tough questions right to him. Make him responsible. In the end, this is HIS issue. The student editors and writers are just that: students. Shawn Murphy is a professor. As such, he has an obligation to TEACH, not just let the students run roughshod over a good publication with idiotic opinion-mongering.

Shawn Murphy always tells people that the duty of a journalist is to shine a light on the rats and watch them scurry. He is correct. Now, who is the biggest rat in this whole sordid situation? Think about it...and when you come up with your answer, shine your light on it and watch him scurry, hopefully out of Cardinal Points for good.

Jon Hochschartner and Jessica Bakeman (the editor in chief of CP) should be fired for allowing this obscene misogynist attack on women to be printed. If anyone else thinks Cardinal Points shouldn't be advocating articles that support rape culture on Plattsburgh State's campus, please call Shawn Murphy, the paper's academic advisor at (518) 564-2422 and tell him that we don't appreciate article's like this.
